Maxim Sports Coaching is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people. We recognise our responsibility to ensure that all children participating in our activities are protected from harm, abuse, and exploitation.
We adopt a child-centred approach and believe that:
- The welfare of the child is paramount.
- All children, regardless of age, disability, gender, race, religion, or sexual orientation, have the right to protection.
- Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.
This policy aligns with UK safeguarding legislation and guidance, including Working Together to Safeguard Children and Keeping Children Safe in Education.

Michelle Frost is responsible for:
- Managing safeguarding concerns
- Liaising with external agencies
- Supporting staff and volunteers
- Ensuring safeguarding procedures are followed
- Keep update with training (most recent welfare certification: May 2026)
- Definitions of Abuse
We recognise the four main types of abuse:
- Physical Abuse – causing physical harm
- Emotional Abuse – persistent emotional maltreatment
- Sexual Abuse – forcing or enticing a child into sexual activities
- Neglect – failure to meet a child’s basic needs
Staff should also be aware of:
- Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE)
- Child Criminal Exploitation (CCE)
- Online abuse
- Grooming
- Bullying (including cyberbullying)
- Safeguarding Responsibilities
All staff, coaches, and volunteers must:
- Read and understand this policy
- Complete safeguarding training
- Report any concerns immediately
- Maintain professional boundaries
- Act in the best interests of the child at all times
- Reporting Concerns
If a child is in immediate danger, call 999.
If you have a safeguarding concern:
- Record the concern factually and promptly
- Report it immediately to the DSL (Michelle Frost)
- Do not investigate yourself
- Maintain confidentiality

- Safer Recruitment
Maxim Sports Coaching follows strict safer recruitment practices:
- All staff and volunteers must complete an application process
- Identity verification is required
- A minimum of two references must be obtained
- Enhanced DBS checks are mandatory
- Safeguarding questions are included in interviews and applications
- Gaps in employment history are explored
No individual will begin regulated activity until all checks are completed.
- Staff Training & Development
- All staff must complete safeguarding training before working with children
- Regular refresher training is required
- DSL training is updated every 2 years
- Staff are kept informed of safeguarding updates and risks
- Code of Conduct
Staff and volunteers must:
- Treat all children with respect and dignity
- Avoid being alone with a child where possible
- Not engage in inappropriate physical contact
- Not communicate with children via personal social media
- Report any concerns about colleagues
- Online Safety
Maxim Sports Coaching recognises the importance of online safety:
- Communication with children will be professional and monitored
- Parents/carers will be informed of digital platforms used
- Any concerns about online abuse will be reported
- Whistleblowing
All staff have a duty to report concerns about poor or unsafe practice.
Concerns can be raised with the DSL or externally via the NSPCC whistleblowing helpline.
- Allegations Against Staff
Any allegation against a member of staff or volunteer must be:
- Reported immediately to the DSL
- Referred to the (Local Authority Designated Officer) LADO within 1 working day
- Handled confidentially and fairly
- Record Keeping
- All safeguarding concerns will be recorded securely
- Records will be factual, dated, and signed
- Information will be shared only on a need-to-know basis
- Policy Review
This policy will be reviewed annually or in line with changes in legislation.
